Cisco
Synchron uses Cisco network devices in its wired and wireless network management service.
Cisco, our solution partner
Cisco makes business networking, wireless networking and network security products. Cisco is a solution partner of Synchron. We use Cisco switches, access points and routers in our Wired and Wireless Network Management service. We design the network, install the devices and run its daily operation.
In Cisco networks, we plan the wired and wireless network together. We also take over the management of existing Cisco infrastructure.
Cisco products we use
Cisco Catalyst 9000 switches
The Catalyst 9200, 9300, 9400, 9500 and 9600 Series. They connect users, IP phones and access points to the network in business campus networks.
Cisco Business 110 Series
Entry-level unmanaged switches for small offices.
Cisco Meraki MS switches (MS120 and MS130 Series)
Switches managed from the cloud with the Cisco Meraki dashboard.
Cisco Nexus switches
The Nexus 3000 and N9000 Series are for data center networks.
Wireless access points
Business access points with Wi-Fi 7 support.
Secure Routers
Routing and SD-WAN infrastructure.
Central management
Cisco Catalyst Center and the Cisco Meraki dashboard configure and monitor network devices from one screen.

Licensing
Synchron provides Cisco Meraki and Cisco Catalyst licenses. According to Cisco Meraki, Meraki devices are managed with a valid license; if the license is not renewed, the devices can no longer be managed from the Meraki cloud. According to Cisco, Catalyst switches use a perpetual Network Essentials or Network Advantage license together with a 3, 5 or 7-year Essentials or Advantage tier of Cisco Networking Subscription (formerly Cisco DNA). Details: Software Licensing.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Cisco Catalyst and Cisco Meraki?
Meraki products are managed from the cloud with the Cisco Meraki dashboard. For Catalyst products, Cisco Catalyst Center is used for central management. We make the choice by the number of branches, the structure of the IT team and the existing infrastructure.
Do you take over the management of our existing Cisco network?
Yes. First, we make the device inventory, back up the configurations and prepare the network diagram. Then we do updates, changes and troubleshooting within our Wired and Wireless Network Management service.
Which Cisco product is right for a small office?
Small offices that need few ports use Cisco Business Series switches. For branches without an on-site IT team, we consider cloud-managed Meraki products.
What do you do for voice and camera traffic on Cisco switches?
We define a separate VLAN for IP phones and cameras. We apply prioritization (QoS) to voice traffic. When we select PoE models, we calculate the total PoE budget by the device count.
Do Cisco network devices work with devices of other brands?
Standard protocols such as VLAN (802.1Q) and link aggregation (LACP) work between different brands. In a mixed network, we check compatibility before the installation.
How is guest access separated on a Cisco wireless network?
We define a separate SSID and a separate VLAN for guest users. The guest network cannot reach the company network and goes only to the internet. We also limit the bandwidth of the guest network.
How do you do software updates on Cisco devices?
Before the update, we back up the configuration and read the release notes. We do the update in a maintenance window that we agree with the company. After the update, we test the network services.
How is a fault found in a Cisco network?
Cisco Catalyst Center or the Cisco Meraki dashboard monitors the status of devices and connections. We also connect the network devices to the monitoring system of our Monitoring and Alarm Management service. When a port or a connection goes down, the alert comes to us.
